Dear Member,
It is with great sadness that I, on behalf of the General Committee wish to announce the retirement of Joseph De Souza, popularly known as "Boni" or "Uncle BON" from the post of Hon General Secretary of the Association after 46 years of serving the association.
All of you would know Boni and he has been a pillar of the Association. He knows each one of you personally as a friend and SAFTEA without him will seem strange. Generations of members will know him as the front man for the Association for all these years.
The reason for this letter besides announcing his retirement, I, on behalf of the General Committee would like you to attend an appreciation cum farewell lunch for our dear Boni on Sunday the 25th August 2013 from 12.30pm. We hope that you will come in large numbers and tell your friends who knows Boni to come along for the luncheon to show your appreciation and friendship to someone who has contributed much to the Association.
Entrance to the luncheon costs RM30.00 with 2 bands in attendance. I would also like to appeal to you for any monetary contribution so that the we as his friends can give him a token of our eternal gratitude.
Kindly call the office at 21483107 to make your bookings. Kindly treat this as a personal invitation. Looking forward to seeing you and your family on the 25th August.
Yours in service of the community,

Report by Ladies Chairperson (Maureen Sibert)
The Ladies committee was kept busy in 2012 with the monthly Family Lunches, held on the last Sunday of each month. There was always a good turnout with many regulars as well as new faces attending. Good food and good music was provided and it was great to see everyone having a nice relaxing afternoon. My thanks to all those who made each function a success. Thanks also to the bands, namely Winds of Change, Stairway, Amigos, Crystal Notes and Ben Mowe for entertaining us.
The children’s X’mas Party was held in December. About seventy under privileged children were treated to an evening of entertainment and fun. Members’ children and grandchildren were also present and together I think they had an enjoyable time. Santa was on hand to give out presents and a clown entertained the children with games and a magic show. Thank you to all those who donated so generously to a worthy cause.
Finally, I must thank my committee for all their help. Special mention to Yvette, Mary, Elaine and even the President and her daughter, Beatrice who made it a point to help me sell raffle tickets each month. Thanks also to Dato Lawrence, James Monteiro and Sheila De Costa for donating prizes for the Raffle Draw. My heartfelt appreciation to Boni, who did a lot of work every month. A big thank you also to Willie and Alex for all their help. Thank you Yap Lee Loy for patiently sitting at the door month after month.
In conclusion, I must also say thank you to Belinda and Ann for rounding up all their friends for the Sunday lunches. Thank you also to all those who attended every month. Your presence made the functions a success. God Bless you and your families.
**Maureen had a difficult time personally as her husband Deric was terminally ill for the whole of 2012. However, not one family lunch was cancelled because of this .Deric used to patiently sit at the door collecting money for the lunch until he fell ill. We also thank Deric for his advice and counsel on moving the important documents out from Jalan Pudu while we pursue our case against UDA and the Government.
