SAFTEA hosts competition to inspire young Malaysian musicians

YOUTH EXPRESSION is a gathering of the young organised by the Selangor and Federal Territory Eurasian Association (SAFTEA) which, for a short time more, will be in Jalan Pudu, KL.

The event aims to bring youth together through music and recruit as many Malaysian youths as possible to the club which, currently, is depending on senior citizens to stay afloat.

"We want to encourage more musical activity among the youth at the club," said organiser Arnold Monteiro.

"Eurasians are famous for being music lovers, and this competition is open to all Malaysian youths."

Monteiro explained that the competition is a fortnightly event which starts tomorrow, with the grand finals on June 22. Open to anyone aged 16 to 30 years, participants can be in a band or perform as solo artistes.

There are now 10 bands and five soloists competing. Each week, four performers will compete, each performing at least three songs, with one winner, each week. Judging is based on 40 per cent from the judges, and 60 per cent from the audience, Monteiro said.

There will be an entrance fee of RM10, inclusive of one drink. Every drink purchased gets one vote, which means the more you drink, the more votes you can cast.

The grand prize is a recording contract with InterGlobal Music (Malaysia) for a single recorded plus RM500 in cash, a second prize of RM300, a third of RM200, and two more of RM100 each.

"We under-stand that bands would have incurred expenses in practice studios and are giving prize money to all the finalists to help them with expenses," Monteiro said.

Guest artistes will include Blister, Round Robin, Joy Shavini Victor and Rhythm Nation.

If you have not heard about it, then listen our ladies' committee will be organizing the next Sunday

Family Lunch on Sunday, 24th march 2013.

The count down has already began, which means that the association's clubhouse would have to move sometime maybe in June or thereabouts.  That would leave us with just about three (3) more Sunday lunches at Jalan Pudu. So if you have not been to the clubhouse please come and enjoy the last few days with us.

This coming Sunday's Family Lunch is on 24.03.13 and the menu for the lunch is :-

Devil curry, roast leg of lamb, chicken boxing, beef stew, tingiri fish in sambal, fried french beans, and mixed salad and white rice.

For desert: cream caramel and mixed fruits.

For tea: Singapore mee hoon and varieties of puddings.

A big Chinese New Year treat for members and friends this coming Sunday, 24th February 2013, SAFTEA will be organizing the Sunday Family Lunch at the clubhouse.
