ReplyDeleteI take strong exception to the comments made by Frank N. O’Nes in the October-December 2009 issue of Berita Saftea. I know of no Frank N. O’Nes, member or non-member, and therefore can only assume that the writer is courageous to write only under the guise of an assumed name.
ReplyDeleteFor the eight years that I have served in the General Committee I have never been part of or witnessed or even heard of “secret meetings” conducted by any member of the GC. Neither has the GC ever been used as a platform to “vent personal frustrations and ostracize members who do not fit into their list of cronies”. My goodness, what utter and total rubbish!! I can only assume that the writer is talking from first-hand experience and personal involvement in such unproductive and destructive activity. Either that or that he takes great pride in allowing his fertile imagination to run wild in order to give vent to his own personal frustrations.
I am an advocate of responsible free expression but not the freedom to express without regard for truth, justice and fair play. _________________________________________________
CM raised certain pertinent issues in the October-December 2009 issue of Berita Saftea which in my view should have been addressed by the Editorial Committee instead of being left to hang without a proper and speedy response.
CM, we take note of your comments regarding children being in the club after 9pm. This does not happen often and when it does, it is always because there is either a youth programme involving the young or when there is a family gathering. In all cases, children below the age of 18 are only allowed in when accompanied by their parents. Hon Gen Secretary has been directed to put up a notice to prominently display this rule.
The incident involving two women guests was dealt with on the spot by a member of the General Committee who was present. The women were given verbal warnings by the Membership Chairman and immediately asked to leave the club premises. As they were guests no further action could be taken. Members are responsible for the behaviour and demeanour of their guests. For this reason, warnings were also given to the members concerned. This incident was not something “management/staff” should be held responsible for and to suggest their removal is certainly inappropriate and uncalled for.
Fees are charged for all private events organized in the club. Non-members have no standing and therefore have no right to be in the club unless invited as a guest by a member. Bringing in food to celebrate a birthday or anniversary is not prohibited since we do not have in-house catering. Please be assured that this relaxation on bringing in food is only temporary and will be rescinded once a restaurant is back in place. Thank you for your views and comments.

MA, nobody is a nobody; everybody is somebody. I am glad to note that you have taken the trouble to support activities whenever you can and I am sure you will feel much more at home as you widen your network in the Association. I am sorry that you have yet to receive your membership card despite being a member for several years. This is being attended to by the PR & Publicity Sub-Committee.
I share your sentiment with regard to the annual mass organized by the Senior Citizens Sub-Committee. The date, when it was given, left us with very little time to provide more advance notice and although the Association did try to inform and gather as many as possible for this Eucharistic celebration, many were unfortunately left out of the loop. We are sorry you were not informed and hope to give all members as much early warning as possible in future events. Thank you for your support, patience and understanding.
