De COSTA-SU SCHOLARSHIP for UNDERGRADUATE STUDY

The De Costa-Su Scholarship is offered by Sheila De Costa, President of Selangor & Federal Territory Eurasian Association and Mr SUTiangJoo to a student of Eurasian parentage whose parents must be members of the Selangor & Federal Territory Eurasian Association.

It carries a value of RM 30,000 for undergraduate study to enable the student to pursue an undergraduate course of study at a local university in Malaysia.

The scholarship does not carry any payback bond but the successful candidate will be required to sign an undertaking for the following :

1. To help his/her parents when he/she starts working.


2. To contribute his/her time to help the youth in SAFTEA.


3. To assist a student in need when he /she is in a position to do so as part of community social responsibility.

The scholarship is given to honour the sacrifices of our parents, Mr&Mrs Cornelius De Costa and Mr&Mrs Su Tim who appreciated the value of education and to help a needy student who qualifies for university entrance but is not able to afford the full cost of the course due to financial constraints.

• Value of RM 30,000.00 at RM 10,000.00 per year for the duration of undergraduate study of three years; for a programme exceeding three years such as engineering, pharmacy, dentistry or medicine,the scholarship value of RM 30,000.00 will be disboursed proportionately for each year of undergraduate study.


• Scholarship is for the academic year commencing September 2012.


• Eligible for children of parents who are members of SAFTEA.

CONDITIONS :

Applicant must :

1. Be a Malaysian citizen and of Eurasian descent.


2. Parent(s) must be a current Ordinary member and in benefit of SAFTEA.


3. Have a valid and current offer of study from a local public or local private university and university college or a franchised degree programme in a private college for the full undergraduate study or a 2+1 or 3+1 pathway to a foreign degree.


4. Have registered for a course of study which has MQA ( Malaysian Qualifications Agency ) approval.


5. Have pre university results above CGPA 3.0 or equivalent to be eligible for the scholarship. The following pre university programmes will be considered:
   
   
   
   • Matriculation programme, local or foreign such as the Canadian Matriculation, Australian Matriculation, A-levels, United Examination Certificate (UEC ), International Baccalaureate ( IB ).
   
   
   • Equivalent pre university programmes not stated may be considered
   
   
   
   


6. Undergo an interview


7. The successful candidate must produce a certified true copy of each year's results for the scholarship to be continued for each year of the undergraduate course of study. Results must be a minimum of CGPA 2.8 for each academic year.


8. A candidate who already holds a Scholarship from an organization, institution or sponsorship body or has a PTPTN loan is not eligible for the De COSTA-SU UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP.

APPLICATION :

Must be supported by certified true copies of the following documents :

1. A completed SAFTEA Education Fund application form


2. Identity card


3. A current offer letter for a course of study approved by MQA


4. Proof of registration and enrolment such as receipt of first semester's fee


5. SPM certificate and pre university results ( A-level, STPM, matriculation, International Baccalaureate, UEC or equivalent qualifications )


6. Extracurricular activities and any meritorious awards/recognition

Only shortlisted candidates would be notified for interviews.
